As early as 1890, Johan Dunker Förenade Gummifabriks AB started in Helsingborg. Initially, only galoshes were manufactured, but to substandard quality. Johan's son Henry then decided to go to the leading manufacturers in rubber - namely the Russians. When the Russians did not want to help Henry, he instead went to Riga for a visit to chemist Julius von Gerkan, who later became technical manager of the high -quality Helsingborg rubber. The company changed its name to Tretorn AB and in time the factory also began to collaborate with Trelleborgs Gummifabrik and start sales offices in Copenhagen, Berlin and Vienna. The range was expanded to balls, bathing caps and tires. After the Second World War, there was a shortage of rubber when the plantation in the east had been destroyed. Therefore, the Tretorn reduced the production of galoshes and instead focused on making boots and tennis balls. In 1976, Tretorn collaborated with ABBA and designed a special edition wood shoe collection. In 1977, tennis legend Björn Borg helped the company to develop its tennis assortment. Tretorn's now long knowledge of the production of balls motivated the company to also start producing paddle balls.
